BASEBALL BIRTHDAY QUOTE OF THE DAY: BOBBY GRICH

Bobby Grich was born on this day in 1949. He was a terrific second baseman who played for the Orioles from 1970-76 and the Angels from 1977-86.

Grich was a six time All-Star, four time Gold Glove Award Winner and 1981 Home Run leader (strike shortened season). He had 1833 career hits. Most impressively, he had a .997 fielding percentage in 1981.

The clutch hitter and great fielder is still discussed for the Hall of Fame given that his numbers are comparable or not better than several second basemen already in the Hall.

For his great play, he is today's recipient of the Baseball Birthday Quote of the Day. I have quotes that extol his virtues at www.baseballquotations.com  but wanted to provide a humorous one today

"The bad thing about big league baseball is all the travel. All you can do in the big cities is shop. The good thing is you can afford it."
--Bobby Grich
