On this day in 1950, long time Cardinal pitcher Bob Forsch was born.
Forsch was a terrific pitcher from 1974--1988 with the Cardinals then he spent the last two years of his career with the Astros.
Forsch had 168 career wins. Among the many highlights of his career included a 20 game winning season in 1977, two time Silver Slugger Award winner (he had 12 career home runs) and two no hitters. His brother Ken was also a good pitcher who pitched a no-hitter.
Forsch was an ultimate professional who was very much respected by teammates and opponents. He died way too young in 2011.
In honor of his terrific career and his January 13th birthday, he is today's recipient of the Baseball Birthday Quote of the Day.
"He was a great leader and one of the best competitors I've ever played with at any level."
--Willie McGee
