BASEBALL BIRTHDAY QUOTE OF THE DAY: DONTRELLE WILLIS

Happy Birthday to the D-Train, Dontrelle Willis. Few pitchers in recent baseball history pitched with as much flair and joy as Willis. He was a charismatic personality who had several terrific years.

His career record was a solid 72-69, but the arc of his career was with the Marlins. In 2003, he was 14 and 6 and was Rookie of the Year. The Marlins also run the World Series that year.

His best year was in 2005, when he finished second in the Cy Young Voting with a 22 and 10 record and a 2.63 E.R.A.

He was well loved by fans and people would come to the ballpark to watch his unorthodox pitching style. On a personal note, my son and I had the opportunity to meet him when he was with the Marlins and he could not have been more personable (no surprise).

Happy Birthday to the D-Train and congratulations on receiving the Birthday Baseball Quote of the Day.

"The guy was fun, fun to catch. I don't think anybody in Miami had seen anyone like him before."
--Mike Redmond
