Happy January 9th birthday to Otis Nixon, born on this day in 1959. Not a lot of great players born today. Nixon has the most hits of any player born this day and Stan Javier has the most home runs.
Nixon played in the majors from 1983--1999. He played for ten teams and had 620 career stolen bases and a lifetime batting average of a very respectable .270. In 1991, he tied the major league record with six stolen bases in a game. He is also the player with the most career stolen bases who has never been voted to an all-star team.
He gets our very funny quote of the day. Thanks to Andy Van Slyke.
"Get the Presidents out of the game. If I come up and see Joe Carter out there, I'll give up."
--Andy Van Slyke, on being robbed of hits by Otis Nixon and Claudel Washington
